Making sound travel...

We made telephones out of plastic cups and string. We spoke to our friends down the phone and they listened by putting it to their ear.

When the string was floppy the sound did not travel so well. When the string was pulled tight, the sound travelled better and we could hear what they were saying.

WHAT DOES SOUND FEEL LIKE?

Today we experimented with sounds. We made a tube shaped like a cone and we found out what happens to the sound when we whisper, talk and shout through the funnel. Then we listened through the funnel and we could hear lots of sounds very clearly.Mrs F told us about the world vibrations and we all went home to tell our families what vibrations are. We could feel the vibrations through the paper funnels.
"It feels shaky" said Charity.
"It wobbles" said Ashtyn.
"I can feel it" said Kreschard.
Now I wonder how sound travels? Can you see it travelling? Can you feel it travelling?

Lucky the crab?

Today Mrs Curtis gave us a crab. It was dead. We knew it was dead because it didn't move. We looked at it. It was hard because it had a shell. We counted the legs and felt how sharp the pincers were. It was a bit smelly - it smelt like the sea - like fish!
We decided to call it lucky the crab. Lupe wanted to call the crab fluffy but it wasn't very fluffy!
When we finished looking at it, we took it to the garden and we said some lovely words to the crab. Then we dug a hole and we buried it in the soil.

Was it a lucky crab?
